East London is located in the northeastern part of the city of London. The general notion to this region’ beginnings but an unofficial one from the 1720’s is that this part of London was the part beyond the tower. But, later in the 1950’s became known as East London, and covered all of Greater London and was north of the River Thames. The area first developed from the growth of industry along the River Thames including shipbuilding and the docks, but later in the 20th century the industry came to an end.
